Time to upgrade your jams and jellies with this Berry Blast Chia Jam!
This jam is not like anything from the shelves in the grocery stores. It is jam packed with nutrients, fiber and flavour. And free of added processed sugars and artificial flavours and additives.
All berries provide a rich source of antioxidants, help support the immune system, and combat free radicals. Chia seeds are high in essential fatty acids, fiber and protein. We recommend freshly grinding your chia seeds to reduce the seedy texture and increase nutritional value. This recipe contains a small amount of sea salt to bring out more of the sweetness of the berries. Using a good quality sea salt provides lots of different minerals which are essential for a healthy diet..
Like we said, this recipe is jam-packed. It will pump up kids with energy, keep them healthy and make every meal an adventure!
Berry Blast Chia Jam
Makes about 1 cup of jam
1 bag (400g) Mixed Berries- frozen
½ cup+ Filtered Water
1 tsp Cinnamon- ground
1/3 cup Chia seeds- ground
Optional: 1/8 tsp Sea Salt-fine
Method:
In a small or medium sauce pot, on low/medium heat, add all the ingredients into the pot except the ground chia seeds.
Continue to cook and stir occasionally. The longer you cook the berries, the more flavour and natural sweetness will come out. However, the longer you cook the berries, the more water will be needed. Add gradually to desired texture.
We recommend cooking slowly for around 20 minutes. When you’ve reached your desired texture and flavour, stir in the ground chia seeds. Add a little more water if you think it needs it.
Super Savers
You can also make this in a cast iron pan or pot, which will increase the iron content of the jam.
If you don’t have time to cook slowly for a long period, cook for as long as you can. Add ½ tsp more of cinnamon and blend in a blender or food processor with all the ingredients until you’ve reached your desired texture.
